​We sketch, we plan, we draw and we reflect. Does that mean that all aspects are figured out ahead of time? No, it does not.  I still have to carefully make certain that the numbers add up and will work properly in the end.​

The work that goes into the framing and preparation for finishing often has a rhythm and beauty of its own. Sometimes I have genuine regret when it is covered up never to be seen again.

​Day One

I don't know if there is anything to match the feeling of exhilaration and momentous possibility of the first-day framing on a new project.  

The designwork has been finalized, the foundation has been completed, and it is finally time to plug in the saws, put a couple clips of nails into the gun, and make it all happen.


Nothing like it.
